Similar to the roundhouse of a train yard where the locomotives turn in new directions, we at Virgil Kaine have traveled down another new track. When we were unable to locate new American white-oak barrels during the barrel shortage of 2014, whiskey from a traditional bourbon mash bill needed to find a new home.
What came to be was delicious whiskey that was finished first in used bourbon barrels — an unconventional, unheard-of choice for American spirits. Then years later when oak barrels with perfect char came to us, we double barreled this batch and completed the process with a second round of finishing. Finding opportunity in adversity, this is unmistakably Virgil Kaine Roundhouse Double Barrel Whiskey.
