Welcome back to Ommegang’s winter seasonal, an oatmeal stout brewed to keep you company on a cold winter’s eve. Sitting beside a crackilng fire, beer in hand, the woods outside will always look lovely, dark and deep,
Tasting Notes: Pours deep black with a tan, creamy mousse-like head. Aromas of roasted malt and coffee with cream, coupled with subtle notes of chocolate and dark fruit from Ommegang’s house yeast prevail. Flavors of rich chocolate milk, and coffee and cream are impeccably balanced with restrained sweetness and hints of roastiness. The finish is silky smooth with a medium to full body.
Food Pairings: Aged Cheddar is a good start. Other cheeses with a nutty flavor profile such as Emmentaler, Gruyere or Edam would work well. Serve with a whole-grain baguette or a loaf of dark bread with natural sweetness like pumpernickel. Add some stone-ground mustard with cold meats, such as rare roast beef or paper-thin slices of American country ham. Try dried fruits and nuts, with roasted chestnuts as a fantastic winter pairing.
