Columbia Winery

Columbia Winery  has an elegant collection of wines from Washington State with a fruit-driven taste and firm acidity that complement a variety of foods. For more than 50 years, they have taken a progressive approach to crafting wines.

Established in 1962, Columbia Winery was founded by 10 friends, six of whom were University of Washington professors. The group was united under the belief that classic European vines could thrive in the Washington climate and yield fine wines.

The results far exceeded their expectations under influential winemaker and Master of Wine David Lake, who joined the winery in 1979. Under Lake, Columbia Winery produced Washington State’s first series of vineyard-designate wines and was the first to plant several new grape varieties varieties in the state, including Syrah, Pinot Gris and Cabernet Franc.

Today, this innovation continues with our talented and creative winemaking team, led by Winemaker Sean Hails.

Following primary fermentation, this Chardonnay was left on fine lees for nine months until bottling to create an enriched mouthfeel and texture with a supple finish.

Columbia Merlot opens with a dark color that has a distinct purple edge. Enticing aromas of cherry and plum with a hint of violet float from the glass and continue to the palate, where they are joined by pronounced notes of toasty oak, vanilla and hints of mocha. Rich and plush in the mouth, this Merlot has firm tannins and a lingering finish.   Oak influence lent this Merlot its distinct brown spice notes.
